Every pest control company wants a steadier flow of leads, ideally exclusive ones that don’t get sold to three competitors at the same time. This guide covers the main channels for getting pest control leads, how quickly each one works, and how to build a system that doesn’t fall apart when the season changes.
Shared leads vs leads you own
Lead marketplaces can fill gaps, but shared leads are usually sold to several companies at once. You end up racing to call first and competing on price. Leads from your own marketing (your Google profile, website, ads and referrals) are exclusive to you, usually convert better, and build an asset you keep. The goal is to make bought leads optional.
1. Google Business Profile (fast, low cost)
Your Google Business Profile is often the cheapest source of high-intent calls. When someone searches “exterminator near me”, the Map Pack appears first. Optimize your categories, services, service areas, photos and reviews, and keep posting. See our Google Business Profile guide.
2. Local Services Ads (fast, pay per lead)
Where available, Local Services Ads appear above everything else and you pay per lead rather than per click. Verification takes some time, but once live they can produce calls quickly. Dispute leads that don’t match your services or area.
3. Google search ads (fast, scalable)
Search ads let you target specific pests, services and areas with full control over keywords and budget. They’re ideal for filling the schedule while SEO builds. Use tight keyword themes, strong negative keyword lists and dedicated landing pages. Our Google Ads for pest control guide covers setup.
4. SEO (slower, compounding)
Organic rankings take months, but they keep producing leads without a per-click cost. Build service pages for each pest and location pages for each area, fix technical issues and earn reviews and links. Over time SEO usually becomes the lowest cost-per-lead channel.
5. Your website (the conversion engine)
Every channel sends people to your website, so its conversion rate multiplies everything. Make sure every page has tap-to-call, a short form, clear service areas, reviews and fast mobile load times. A site that converts better can lower your cost per lead across every channel at once.
6. Reviews and referrals
Happy customers are your cheapest lead source. Ask for Google reviews after every job and make referrals easy, for example a simple referral credit on the next service. Reviews also improve the conversion rate of every other channel.
7. Partnerships
Real estate agents, property managers, home inspectors and restaurant groups all need pest control regularly. A handful of good partners can deliver steady, high-value work, especially for termite inspections and commercial contracts.
8. Past customers and service plans
The cheapest lead is a customer you already have. Follow up one-off treatments with a service-plan offer, send seasonal reminders and make renewals easy. Recurring revenue smooths out the seasonal swings in new leads.
Speed to lead: the multiplier
Pest problems are urgent. The company that responds first often wins the job. Make sure calls are answered, forms trigger instant notifications, and missed calls get a quick text back. Faster follow-up can raise your close rate without spending a cent more on marketing.
Track your cost per lead and per customer
Lead volume alone can mislead. Track leads, cost per lead and, most importantly, cost per booked customer for each channel. Then move budget toward what produces customers at the lowest cost. Our ROI calculator helps you model it, and call and conversion tracking makes it measurable.
